Philadelphia Residential Electrical Services

Licensed Electrical Contracting & Inspection Services Across Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania, electrical inspections are required for new electrical system installations and for most upgrades or changes to existing wiring or systems. Where required, the contractor performing the work must be licensed by the local municipality where the work takes place. A-1 Electric meets both requirements and goes further: we operate as a licensed residential electrical contractor and a Commonwealth-accredited third-party inspection agency, giving homeowners throughout Pennsylvania a single point of contact that understands both sides of every project.

We hold a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania agency number certificate recognizing us as an accredited third-party inspection agency and a trusted electrical inspector for PECO customers. That dual capability sets us apart from contractors who only perform the work or inspectors who only sign off on it.

Nearly 70 Years of Pennsylvania Electrical Work

A-1 Electric was founded in 1955 by William H. Greenage Jr., who started the business at 18 years old. William went on to become one of the first licensed electricians in Pennsylvania, holding a Chalfont License. Decades before independent inspections were legally required, he was already calling in insurance underwriters to verify his work and establish an independent standard for safety. That voluntary commitment to third-party accountability became the foundation on which the company operates today.

Thomas J. Greenage grew up working alongside his father from the age of eight. When William passed in 2015, Thomas carried forward not just the business but the standards his father built. The firm now operates as TNT Electrical Construction Inc. dba A-1 Electric, with a team of certified master electricians, inspectors, underwriters, and contractors. Our team holds over 70 collective years of experience in the reintroduction of service, and our accreditations span the Commonwealth, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, and local Authorities Having Jurisdiction across every county in the state.

Frequently Asked Questions

When Do I Need a Residential Electrical Inspection in Pennsylvania?

Pennsylvania requires an electrical inspection for new electrical system installations and for most upgrades or modifications to existing wiring or systems. If you’re adding circuits, upgrading your panel, or making changes to your home’s wiring, an inspection is typically required before the work is considered complete and compliant.

What Is a Reintroduction of Service & How Long Does It Take?

A reintroduction of service inspection is required when electrical power has been disconnected for an extended period, or following fire or significant property damage, before service can be restored. The on-site inspection itself takes approximately 15 minutes once our inspector arrives.

What Happens If My Home Doesn’t Pass Inspection?

If the inspection reveals issues, you receive a list of the code corrections required. Once those repairs are made by your licensed electrical contractor, a re-inspection is scheduled to confirm the system now meets all applicable standards. A certificate of compliance is issued within 48 hours of a confirmed-compliant inspection.

Can My Electrician Also Do the Inspection?

No. Pennsylvania requires that the inspection be conducted by a party independent from the contractor who performed the work. This is both a regulatory requirement and a firm operational boundary at A-1 Electric. If we perform your electrical work, we arrange for a separate inspection agency. If we serve as your inspection agency, we don’t perform the underlying electrical work on that same project.
